Victoria Beckham’s rep has defended the use of animal skin in her new handbag collection.

According to Now magazine, The former Spice Girls star has upset animal rights group PETA by using crocodile, lizard and calf leather in her latest range.

But Victoria's spokeswoman insists the sourcing of the skin meets international regulations.

'Everyone is entitled to personal opinion and choice, but as with all Victoria Beckham products, the handbags are made to the highest quality and design,' she tells the Daily Mirror.

'These skins sit strictly within the CITES [Convention On International Trade In Endangered Species] regulations, and are monitored at every step of production.

'The skins are farmed in America under very tight guidelines.'
PETA are thought to be planning a public protest to try to get Victoria, 36, to change her bag production methods.
