If you want to freshen up your look, in a dramatic way, then Estée Lauder's latest collection could be right up your street. For the autumn palette, the brand has launched Blue Dahlia Pure Color Collection, which is all about "rich, striking eyes, stunning, glossy lips drenched in shimmer, super chic, luxe shades for nails and dynamic complementary shades for lips".

This collection boasts two distinct looks, Blue Dahlia and Surreal Violet and promises to be "a powerful mix of cool, mysterious shades that mimic the fiercely theatrical world at the edge of the night". It's a big statement!

The key to this collection is in the application and your ability to blend the shades to create the looks described, in order to achieve that dramatic statement. It's not exactly child's play but, with some practice, you should get the hang of it. (Just don't start playing around with the look ten minutes before you go out – do a practice run when you're sitting at home in your tracksuit!)

The Blue Dahlia collection consists of an eyeshadow palette with plenty of options, from a striking navy shade to a dusty pink tone. Also in this collection is Rose Dusk lipstick, Rocky Candy and Twilight Petal lipglosses, Sepia Sand and Twilight Rose eyeshadows and Blue Dahlia nail lacquer.

For the second look, the Surreal Violet collection contains a five-colour eyeshadow palette, with tones ranging from a vibrant violet to pale grey. The collection also features Orchid Dream lipstick, Star Pink lipgloss, Enchanted Meadow eyeshadow and Surreal Violet nail lacquer. For the lips there's also a limited edition Midnight Bloom shade in the collection.

Both of the ranges in this collection are all about colour and contrast. There are vibrant shades for pops of colour (like the Enchanted Meadow eyeshadow, the Orchid Dream lipstick and the dramatic Blue Dahlia nail varnish) and more muted tones (like the Sepia Sand eyeshadow) for complementing these bright touches.

With that in mind, it's probably advisable to work out what colours suit you and which shades you think you will use most often before you invest in products from this range, so that you get value for your money in terms of usage. For example, pick a couple of muted tones for the base (you will use the more neutral eyeshadow shades again and again) and then pick one of two statement splashes of colour to complete your autumn look.
