Before you even consider flashing some flesh this summer, you may want to give your pasty limbs a sun-kissed makeover the safe way.
With so much choice on the market, and so many products that give the undesirable 'tangoed' effect, it's hard to know where to turn to for your bronzing needs.
So here’s the low-down on some of the great new sunless tanners on the market.
Clarins Delectable Self Tanning Mousse
I’ve long been a fan of Clairns self tanners and while I’ve tried and tested other brands - Clairns self-tanning instant gel has been my summer staple for years. This newest offering is another winner.
This wonderful whipped mousse is ultra light and smoothes on like a dream. Not only does it give skin a gorgeous, golden glow its also contains miabelle oil which is super mositurising and its scented with almond and peach so fake tan smell here. My new summer essential. €34 from Clarins counters nationwide.
He-Shi One Day Tan
If you need to glow and go then Irish company He-Shi’s One Day tan is great for all those unexpected party invites that come through the door.
This new wash off formula enhances your skins natural tones. While it comes out of the tube shockingly dark, don’t be alarmed, it quickly dries to give a really natural glow.
What I love about this is its not too dramatic it gives just enough colour to make my pale looking skin look healthy. An excellent speedy tan worth checking out.
ModelCo Sun Sponge
While I love self tanners, I’m absolutely rubbish at applying them – even with a mitt I still mange to get the tangoed-palms!
Original tan in a can company Model Co have come up with a novel way of making the process a little easier. The Sun Sponge is a fake tan with big sponge applicator to apply tan all over your body. It means that as you apply the tan without touching it, the possibility of orange hands is eliminated.
Although good luck trying to apply to your back without a little help. Its quick drying and has a pleasant scent. The formula is tinted and adjusts to individual skin tone.
L’oreal Sublime Bronze tanning spray
A great budget option, L’oreal’s offering sprays on easily and once you make sure your blend well you should be left with a prefect natural looking tan within a few hours.
It has a super fine nozzle that sprays in every direction so in theory you can tan your own back – in practice however this didn’t work out for me!
It dries really quickly and I find this is best applied last thing at night so you wake up with a nice healthy glow.
Piz Buin Self Tanning lotion + colour dial
If your unsure about self tanners, and worry your tan may be too light or too dark then this product is ideal.
It has a colour dial at the top of the bottle with five different shades to to choose from – whether you prefer a light healthy glow or a more intense tan.
As your natural colour develops over the Summer months you then have the option of changing your shade. Quick-drying and a reasonable price this is genius. €22.88, available nationwide
Nuxe Soleil Pordigieux
If you prefer a gradual tanner then Nuxe have just launched two new self tans for the face and the body.
These tinted lotions (be warned this is pretty dark when it comes out of the tube!!), give an instant gently bronzing effect. Ideal for use all year round.
These products give a wonderfully natural look that’s very flattering.
Nuxe Soleil Pordigieux body lotion €27, Nuxe Soleil Pordigieux face cream €23.
