Christina Hendricks has revealed that she first dyed her hair its signature red shade at the age of ten.
The Mad Men actress said that she was inspired by the title character from Anne of Green Gables and begged her mother to allow her to dye her natural blonde hair red.
She said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times: "I decided I was Anne of Green Gables.
"There was something that spoke to me about her, and I wanted to have her beautiful red hair. So my mother said, 'Let’s just go to the drugstore and get one of those cover-the-gray rinses!' My hair was very blonde at the time, but it went carrot red. And I was over the moon."
She added: "I went to school the next day and felt like myself. And then I went back [to that colour] over and over again. What a cool mum, right?"
