We caught up with leading Irish stylist Lisa Fitzpatrick to talk about her style influences, favourite fashion possessions and essential beauty products.
How do you decide what to wear every day?
If it’s for the school run, it’s casual wear. I wear lots of denims for running about during the day. I am a huge believer in planning the night before - failing to prepare is preparing to fail!
Who has influenced your style or whose fashion sense do you admire?
Heidi Klum. I also love to see what Beyoncé is wearing both on and off the stage. Irish women in general have great style. We are brave and confident and have fun with clothes.
What are your ultimate style essentials that you could not live without?
Black dress, denims, blazer, white shirt and oversize bags that carry everything – kids toys, markers, pens…
Who are your favourite Irish and international designers? And your top high street stores?
I love Bastyn, Fran & Jane and J Brand Jeans. For high Street it has to be River Island, Zara, No Name.
What are your favourite fashion possessions?
A beige leather jacket I bought eight years ago and never take off. I love it. A black cashmere jumper by Bastyn – it’s so comfortable and works really well with tailoring. I also adore the Marion Murphy Cooney dress I wore to the VIP style awards dress. I loved it!
What is the most expensive fashion item you have ever bought?
A dress bought in LA for Style Awards that I have worn loads since.
And what was your biggest fashion bargain?
A pair of jeggings that I bought in No Name for €14.95! They’re great.
What is your essential beauty item that must always be in your handbag?
Lip gloss - I’m obsessed with it. I always have Clarins Beauty Balm, which I apply before putting on my make up. It gives a great glow and seals my foundation.
What is you favourite city to shop in and why?
Dublin. We have everything a woman would want.
What do you feel best wearing?
I love dressing up. I get great enjoyment out of it, especially since my 6 year old daughter can now get involved in the process. But you can’t beat denim, knitwear and pair of pumps for comfort.
What's the best style advice you have been given?
The best style advice I always give is to work with your good assets and hide the bad. We all have an area we love, so we should always emphasise it!
What's the worst fashion mistake you have ever made?
Which one? I have had lots of dodgy moments and I have learned from every one of them. And unfortunately, there are photos to prove it!
What’s top of your wish list to buy this season?
Lock me up in Brown Thomas and throw away the key! I would happily spend a weekend trying on everything. I would like a pair of Nina Di Vito shoes.
What do you always carry around in your handbag?
Mobile phone, Elnett hairspray, hairbrush, perfume (I wear a different fragrance everyday), rings (I also change my rings a lot) and a pen and paper for ideas and taking notes.
