British fashion designer Alexander McQueen has been found dead today, reports The Daily Mail.
Details of the 40-year-old designer’s death have not been released yet, but a source at McQueen’s office this afternoon confirmed his death to the Mail, saying: “It is a tragic loss. We are not making a comment at this time out of respect for the McQueen family.”
The Independent website reported that McQueen was found at his home in London's West End shortly after 10am today. Paramedics were called but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The police said his death is not being treated as suspicious.
McQueen’s death comes just days before the start of London Fashion Week, and weeks before he was due to unveil his new collection at Paris Fashion Week at the start of March.
Born in the East End of London, McQueen got his training in tailoring in Savile Row. He was named British Designer of the Year four times between 1996 and 2003, as well as being named International Designer of the Year at the Council of Fashion Designer Awards.
