Q. Please help. My bra size is a 36A and I long for bigger breasts. Being a size 12 with such a flat chest I look out of proportion and although I would never have the guts - or the money - for surgery, I need something to give me a fuller figure. Help.
A. Bra shopping isn't much fun when you can't even pass the pencil test (stick a pencil under your boobs; if it falls to the floor, you fail). If you've ever gone into a lingerie shop and gotten dubious looks from the sales assistants, you'll know what I'm talking about. It's hard not to feel inadequate when you're surrounded by sexy lingerie that will never, ever fit you unless you have expensive surgery.
But don’t worry; the good news is that it’s quite easy to fake an incredible cleavage – without having to go under the knife.
Try buying your bras from companies such as Max Cleavage (visit maxcleavage.com). They specialise in smaller cup sizes and many of their bras come air or gel-filled. You could also purchase a pair of "chicken fillets" - the silicon-filled inserts that slide into your bra and enhance your shape naturally.
Available from Marks and Spencer, they are certainly cheaper than surgery and the results are incredible.
The Maximiser has gel ‘implants’ (about the size of a chicken fillet) inside the cups and it is meant to not only give you a bit extra in the boob department but also push up what you do naturally have. The product costs in the region of €30 and they will bring you up at least two cup sizes, so you’ll have hat extra bit of 'Oomph!' quicker than you can say 'Hello Boys'.
Whether you want to increase your bust size or just find a comfortable bra always go to a department store for a fitting. A good, well-fitting bra will not only support your bust, it'll give you a more youthful, sensual shape and make anything you put on over it look more expensive, because your clothes will hang more neatly.
Every manufacturer's sizes and cup sizes differ. You may be a 36a in one and a 38b in another - an assistant will know the stock and be able to check that what you're buying fits. Before you try on a bra, decide what you need it for too - like shoes, you should have a selection of bras for different occasions.
You can't play sport in a sexy, half-cup bra that's designed to be worn under eveningwear. Similarly, you want something smooth, comfortable and supportive to wear under work clothes.
Opt for dresses and tops that feature gathering, pleats, twists, knots, and/or ruching at the bodice. It is a trick that works well on small-busted women can provide a visual boost as effective as a good push-up bra. Choose styles with gathered folds, ruffles or draping detail on top as this will create the appearance of a fuller, rounder bustline effortlessly and easily.
Problem solved.
