Cheryl Cole is used to taking risks with her style choices but fashion critics have come out in force to criticize the bizarre dress that she wore on Saturday’s X Factor.

The ‘Fight for this Love' singer made a rare fashion faux pas at the weekend by sporting a bizarre fan-style dress. The Girls Aloud star - who has become a fashion icon - made the slip in a £1,500 tube dress by Georgian-born designer David Koma.

The skin-tight frock, which featured a very odd metallic tube detail across her cleavage, had Simon Cowell passing comment.

He warned Cheryl, 26: "You'd better sit up in that dress." When Cheryl asked why, Cowell said: "You'll see why."

Within minutes fans were voicing their distaste online with one fan asking: "Why is Cheryl wearing a set of alloy wheels on the front of her?"

Cheryl really makes an effort to look great on every show and works with stylist Frank Strachan, who has worked with Kylie Minogue, to carefully choose her outfits.

Mr Strachan is a big fan of feathers and sequins and flamboyant designers like Versace and Cavalli, so it is no surprise that he plumped for Koma, who graduated from prestigious London design school, Central Saint Martins, in March.
