When I lived in the US for a summer, there were three things that I missed on a daily basis:
1) My family
2) Decent baked beans
3) Lynx deodorants
Fifteen years later I'm still wondering if I have the order of 2) and 3) on the above list correct.
For me, the wax stick and gooey gel deodorants they had in American supermarkets were terrible, and I dreamt of wandering into a shop and finding Lynx on one aisle and the beans on another.
I've been a fan of Lynx since, well, I can't actually remember and still rank their Phoenix fragrance as the king of supermarket deodorants - love at first sniff.
Lynx has gone a bit more exotic over the years and now has turned to Brazil for its latest, Fever.
Fever, the tin says, has the essence of Brazilian oranges in it. What this means is that if you're looking for some kind of tough guy smell, this isn't the one to get. It's sweet and summery (I'm wondering would it be a good or a bad thing to wear in the depths of winter) and makes you wonder if there are plans to bring out a chewing gum with the same flavour.
When it comes to the business end of what deodorants are meant to do, Fever holds its own with any of Lynx's best. There's also shower gel if you fall head over heels
- I found it nice, but a bit too thick.
Lynx has been flogging Fever with the Brazilian model Elle Liberachi and on the can there's a graphic of a guy spraying himself and a woman in a bikini approaching. I don't think there's any need to resort to this nonsense - Lynx is good enough not to needs gimmicks. Having used it for years, I've never seen any woman in a bikini walk my way after shaking a can, but at least I know it's nothing to do with smelling bad.
