Dressing for a wedding

I have been invited to a wedding next week, and my ex boyfriend will be attending. I want to look fantastic - but I’m not quite sure what to wear? Have you any suggestions?

We all love a wedding, but yet another invite sets in motion the 'what to wear' dilemma. What kind of outfit you go for depends on the type of wedding you are attending. If, for example, the invitation features a luxurious gold border; embossed script, it's a fair bet you should wear a hat. If you just can't bear the thought of one, a good solution is a headpiece: far lighter; less formal, they give the impression of a hat while avoiding the itchy brim.

Anything on an invitation hinting at formal dress usually means black tie, but even if this is the case, for a summer wedding avoid black. There is always a chance you'll cause offence with a colour associated with mourning.

For anyone shy of 40, a suit is far too formal for a summer wedding: you will look like you've just come the office. A halterneck can look elegant; so can a strapless dress, provided you've purchased a good bra.

But if you're attending the wedding of an ex (who is not
marrying you), spend serious cash on the sexiest; most devastatingly fetching frock you can find. Think zebra print, décolletage; braless halterneck dresses.

As for overshadowing the bride, well, that's entirely the point.
