She is star of The Clinic, girlfriend to one of the nation's sporting heroes and has just published her first novel, Hello Heartbreak.

Georgina Heffernan caught up with the effervescent Amy Huberman to talk style, trends – and why she is a high street girl at heart.

Georgina Heffernan: How did your interest in fashion evolve?
Amy Huberman: My dad was a fashion designer who specialised in coats, so fashion was all around me when I was growing up. The name of the company was Henry White and Huberman and they designed for outlets such as Bloomingdales and The Kilkenny store. So, it would be fair to say that I inherited my love of fashion from my Dad.

My mother was also involved in the fashion world, she modelled part time to give herself a bit of spare cash during her college days. Actually, that’s how she met my father - he booked an in house model to showcase the coats and the rest, as they say, is history.

GH: How has your interest in fashion evolved?
AH: I haven’t always been a fashion follower, it’s hard to be when you are a twenty year old and you don’t have all the money in the world. I would have lived in jeans,
trainers and t-shirts when I was in college.

Now I have more events to go to it’s nice to have an excuse to glam up a bit and slip on a great dress and killer heels. When you are working and have a bit more disposable income you can be that little bit more generous to yourself.

GH: What are your fashion essentials?
AH:
Tops and dresses, you can’t get enough wear out of them. I don’t know how you can justify spending a fortune on them though, because there’s just so much choice on the high street.

GH: Where do you find your fashion inspiration?
AH: I love high street designs and I honestly just can’t walk through town without hitting the shops - Topshop is my favourite. Fashion magazines are also great sources of style inspiration and I practically drool over the fabulous fashion shoots. You say to yourself ‘My that dress is cool’, then you see the price tag and realise that it is four grand.

I love how magazines such as Look and In Style show you how to get the high fashion look on the cheap. You need a bit of imagination to be able to put a great look together.

GH: Are you a fan or high street or designer clothes?
AH: I don’t have any designer clothes to be honest, I’ve been lent stunning gowns for events by Synan O Mahoney, who leant me a beautiful dress but it’s certainly not still hanging in my wardrobe.

I’d much rather get a few more pieces for the same amount of money. I’m not saying that designer threads are not lovely in cut and style, and I’m certainly not averse to wearing them, but I’m a high street girl at heart.

GH: What fashion item do you like to splurge on?
AH:
It’s funny that my dad is a coat designer because the one thing that I would spend money on is an amazing coat or a fabulous pair of shoes.
