Nine weeks after opening her second salon, Marissa Carter is busy introducing her services to a new clientele in Blackrock. After opening her first salon in Stillorgan in 2006 which subsequently moved to Dun Laoghaire's Patrick Street, Marissa has chosen a breezy Californian Beach style décor for her follow-up. Whereas Dun Laoghaire focuses primarily on Advanced Skin Care treatments, Blackrock offers a range of quick express cosmetic treatments, including manicures, pedicures, tanning, facials, body treats and hair removal.

Carter X Factor:
* No appointment necessary. In addition to their appointment book, they also offer a walk-in service
* Pre-tan/wax shower option with complimentary body scrub – very handy for clients coming straight from work
* No extra charge for nail art or French polish
* Value for money packages such as the express manicure and pedicure for €50 which only takes 40 minutes and the €35 full-body spray-on tan

Marissa Carter's second salon following Dun LaoghaireOpening a business at any time is daunting but a recession brings extra unwelcome challenges. However business was certainly booming when I popped around. Marissa believes Carter Beauty is doing well because "we offer good value for money. People may have cut out the most luxurious treatments but they're still spending on the maintenance treatments."

Value for money, professional service, good products, late night openings, warm staff in a welcoming environment? No wonder they're busy.
