With a string of problems including drug addiction and bulimia, troubled Amy Winehouse looks like a walking disaster zone. Unless, of course, you're in the fashion industry.
Look at any glossy magazine and you are frequently faced with a slew of glamorous, gorgeous celebrities. Yes, we all know that many stars have been airbrushed and botoxed to within an inch of their lives - but when they look that great, who's complaining?
Whether we like to admit it or not, most of us imitate the styles of our favourite stars hence the current trend for celebrity fashion ranges at high street stores. For Kate Moss wannabes there is TopShop, for Kylie or Madonna fans there is H & M and now comes a new brand from - Amy Winehouse.
It has just been announced that Amy is collaborating with PPQ, the popular London label following in the footsteps of Peaches Geldof. The troubled singer has inspired range of clothes and accessories based on her own, erm, inimitable style. So, what would such a collection be comprised of? Massive ratty bee-hive wigs? Transfer tattoos of topless women? Blood stained ballet slippers - or tatty hot pants?
PPQ designer Any Molyeaux told Grazia:
“The range will be all about high end statement pieces, inspired by Amy's style. For example maybe an amazing piece of jewellery like a bracelet or a dress. It's going to be distributed online, we are going to be providing all materials and doing the design, but Amy will definitely be involved in the creative process. It will be very different to Peaches' line for PPQ as that was more of a diffusion line — this will be homage to Amy's look.”
So, as with all celebrity lines, Winehouse isn't technically designing this one, but it's good of PPQ to be honest about that. The star has been staying on St. Lucia recording her third album. She has been hospitalized three times down there owing to things like "chest pains" and "dehydration."
But while Amy looked great a few years ago - you could hardly say the same about her now. With her emaciated, tattooed frame and scruffy clothes, she looks more like an off duty sailor rather than a fashion icon. I don’t know about you but I think - there’s just something quite macabre about anyone wanting to look like a woman whose life is, quite clearly, spiralling out of control.
Amy should forget about the fashion line and focus on what made her a star in the first place – music.
