Advice for fuller figured women

I am a fuller figured woman with quite large breasts but I want to be able to wear fashionable clothes without looking tarty, have you any advice for me?

This is a problem that so many women have but the good news is that it’s easy to dress up voluptuous curves in fashionable clothes without straying into vulgarity.

Avoid too tight (plays up large breasts too much) and too baggy (just makes you look heavier). Opt for fabrics that skim the body and go for light, flowing fabrics with a fine finish: jersey, light cotton, flannel and cashmere.

Tinny and Susannah believe you should not hide breasts, but rather show them off...I’m not so sure. Speak to any woman with size D and larger breasts and she will share with you a history of embarrassment from men (and women) always looking at her breasts.

Unless you want to attract attention, it is best to dress with an emphasis on de-emphasising your breasts. A minimizer bra will help if you have that pesky front button pulling.

Honestly, these do wonders for your confidence if you're insecure about the size of your mammaries. They're available in sizes D and up. Minimisers surround and clench in big breasts without crushing them.

Necklines that draw attention up to your face and away from your breasts are also a good idea. When shopping for shirts, choose styles that will minimize your bust.

For example, a boat neck shirt (a shirt that has a wide neck opening reaching almost to the shoulders) will draw the eye away from the bosom area. Avoid styles like turtlenecks or plunging v necks because both these styles will only make your cleavage look enormous.

Never wear a pendant style necklace that falls in between your breasts. You might as well wear an arrow that is pointing straight to your bosom. Instead, opt for jewellery that sits just on your collar bone. Large chandelier earrings or a necklace that fits like a choker are great pieces to help keep the focus as far away from the bust as possible.

You can conceal large breasts by wearing a flattering fabric such a jersey, but silks or anything shiny or stretchy really needs to be given a miss.

Strapless dresses nip your body's contours in without hugging too much. Dresses that cover your cleavage well but give them shape are ideal, especially knee-length ones worn with a full coat.

Play down the area with darker colours such as grey, burgundy, deep purple, navy and anthracite grey. You can get away with wearing prints but do remember to keep the pattern small and in proportion.
