Christmas party season has well and truly begun. Whether you are going to an uber glam and glitzy ball or heading out for festive drinks after work, James Brown, best friend and hair consultant to supermodel Kate Moss, has some top tips to ensure you are the belle of the ball this Christmas.
Galway born, James has tamed the tresses of Anna Friel, Anne Hathaway, the Beckhams, Gisele Bündchen, Jessica Simpson, David Bowie, Kylie Minogue and Catherine Zeta-Jones. So, when it comes to hot hairstyles, he knows all the ticks of the trade...
* Straight and Sleek
If straight and sleek is what you’re going for this season, straightening balm is perfect for relaxing kinks in the hair and makes the straightening process easier while also protecting hair from the heat of the straightener.
* Volume and Body
For big and beautiful, volumising mousse gives hair long-lasting volume with a natural hold; ideal for defining natural curls
or building body in fine hair. As it doesn’t leave hair tacky or stiff, you can still run your fingers through your locks.
* Don’t strive for perfection
If you follow the trend this season, stand out from the crowd by keeping it modern. James top tips says "Up do’s are always a party season favourite but I often think they can look a bit stiff and contrived. Kate’s party look is perfectly balanced because she has combined a glamorous evening dress and jewellery with a really modern and effortless version of an up – do".
* Avoid last minute panic
By the end of a hard day in work clean hair can often look dull and dreary, not the look you are going for heading out for the night so bag yourself some dry shampoo, just the trick for making your blow dry last longer.
Another great use for dry shampoo is for any blondes struggling to keep up with their roots. To eliminate the dark streak that can creep up on you ever so quickly, apply some dry shampoo along the roots and blend with your fingertips. This will help blend the colours of your hair and reduce the harsh streak from the roots.
* Natural hold
Whatever the look you choose this Christmas, don’t forget a quick spray of hairspray. "To me hairspray is like jewellery – the finishing touch that you put on last to perfect your style" says James. James also has a top tip for using hairspray – "Just spray onto your fingertips and work into the roots for added lift". Ideal to take you from the office to the party.
