Fashions queen bee, Anna Wintour, was honored for her contribution to British journalism last week by being awarded an OBE.

With her trademark bobbed hair and giant Chanel sunglasses, Wintour is one of the most influential people in the fashion world and has been the editor of American Vogue since 1988.

She said: "It's a great honour; many of my American colleagues are not quite sure what it is. I've worked very hard to support British fashion in the States through the exhibition called Anglomania, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (in New York), and my support of designers like Alexander McQueen and John Galliano."

Universally hailed for her keen eye for fashion trends and support for younger designers, her aloof and demanding persona has earned her the nickname "Nuclear Wintour".

Former personal assistant Lauren Weisberger wrote the bestselling book 'The Devil Wears Prada' about a tyrannical fashion editor, later made into a film starring Meryl Streep.
