STEPS Engineers Week is already up and running - it's full STEAM ahead until Friday, 7 March. Primary Schhols are encouraged to join this celebration of engineering, and to promote STEM subjects and engineering careers to students.

Engineering is a fascinating discipline that students of all ages can enjoy exploring. Engineers Ireland's STEPS programme has made a range of interesting and engaging resources and activities freely available to primary school teachers and students to spark conversation and promote learning.

Here are 7 great ways to find out more about some of the fantastic, free resources below.

Alongside the documentary, an Educator's Guide offers multidisciplinary lesson plans and activities rich in STEM, language, and social sciences that are related to key themes in the film. Each lesson presents students with an engineering challenge inspired by the work of real engineers.

2. Meet an engineer!

Join the Microsoft Dream Space Team for an exciting LIVE virtual event where students will meet a real-life engineer! Through an interactive lesson, Q&A, and hands-on STEM activities, students will explore problem-solving, innovation, and creativity in a fun and engaging way.

3. Make a hovercraft from a CD…

Or measure air pollution…or take the egg drop challenge! The Engineering Activity Bumper Pack has 15 crafty projects that are sure to engage and intrigue students. Make one or make them all. Simply print the activity page of choice and get building! Each pack contains detailed activity instructions.

4. Engineering in our lives

Video and Workbook Engineering in our Lives is a short, animated video with an accompanying workbook that illustrates how engineering is all around us – from our toothpaste to our train to school!

6. A Visual Approach to Engineering and Vocabulary Development for Children with Autism, by Muinteoir Valerie

Children with autism are often visual learners, and Muinteoir Valerie has created a bright and engaging worksheet that focuses on repetition of key words associated with engineering, matching games, and activities based on developing vocabulary.

7. Hex Allen's Guide to Defeating Monsters

The Engineers Ireland STEPS team have paired up with Jasmine Florentine, author & project illustrator of Hex Allen and the Clanksmiths, to share Hex Allen's Guide to Defeating Monsters! Join Hex and her friends as they use science and engineering to get out of a bunch of scrapes and make some fantastic gadgets in this special and exciting activity.

STEPS Engineers Week encourages young people, their teachers, and parents to explore the creative and limitless world of engineering and the diverse opportunities a career in the sector can offer.

The week-long celebration of the engineering profession in Ireland is managed by the Engineers Ireland's STEPS programme and is funded by the Department of Education and industry leaders Arup, the EPA, ESB, Intel and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).
