For Farm Safety Week 20,000 Irish children across the four provinces have become Farm Safety Ambassadors and they are keen to spread some key messages.
Raising awareness of young people on the farm during Farm Safety Week (July 18-22) is crucial as 21 children have sadly died on Irish farms over the last decade.
Primary Schools across Ireland took part in the Agri Aware Farm Safe Schools programme which gave pupils practical advice to keep everyone on the farm safe.
The Agri Aware Farm Safe Schools Programme is helping improve farm safety across Ireland with over 450 primary schools representing the 26 counties, and one in New Zealand, carrying the initiative. All of the children who took part are now Farm Safety Ambassadors.
St Joseph's National School, Killenummery, County Leitrim were crowned the National Champions in the School category of the Agri Aware Farm Safe Schools Programme.

The 5th & 6th Class pupils from Athlacca National School in Kilmallock, County Limerick won the National Winners in the Class category of the Agri Aware Farm Safe School Programme.
Unfortunately, farming has the poorest safety record of any occupation in the UK and Ireland. This week brings Ireland and the UK together to encourage farmers and farm workers to view health and safety as an integral part of their business.
Farm Safety Week hopes to keep farm safety at the forefront of all farmers' and their families’ thinking, with school kids helping to lead the way.

Agri Aware, AgriKids and the Irish Farmers Association (IFA), supported by The Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine have teamed up to bring the Farm Safe Schools programme to Irish classrooms.
The first of its kind, collaborative, the pilot programme engages, educates and empowers Irish children to become farm safety ambassadors. In doing so, helping create a safer, brighter future on Irish farms.
