Today marks Poetry Day Ireland 2021, so why not take a few minutes to read a poem?
Poetry Ireland have shared their Poetry Day Ireland Education Resource Pack for primary school students with us here for everyone to download.
They want everyone to read a poem they love on the day, just like Dara McAnulty!
This imaginative poetry package was created and compiled by poet and teacher Enda Wyley and one of her own poems is included.
SONG OF ME by Enda Wyley
The day I was born
The wind in my hair as I cycle to school
The smile on my Dad's face
when I come home from school
The sun in my mum’s hair
The warmth of my little brother’s hand in mine …
The resource pack complements the Primary School Curriculum and can be enjoyed not just on Poetry Day, but all year around!
The pack is not just for schools and can be enjoyed at home. You can download it below.
Now in its seventh year, this day-long annual celebration of the crafted word, spoken and written.
This year's theme 'New Directions: Maps and Journeys' is both literal and metaphorical. We use maps to orientate ourselves in the world, to show us where we’ve come from and which new direction we’re heading in.

In line with current restrictions, everyone is encouraged to take part in this year's celebrations online from the safety of their own home.
Poetry is for everyone and there are lots of events taking place online to choose from. Mark the day in your own way in your own social bubble, or just take five minutes to sit and enjoy a poem by yourself.
On the day itself use #PoetryDayIRL on social media to join in.
Why not share your your favourite poem with RTÉjr and Poetry Day Ireland?
