Long ago stories were passed down by word of mouth and the tales of St Patrick were no different. Did you know that today is the day you should be planting your spuds?!

Some of these stories ended up creating traditions while others might be just tall tales, but they have survived to this day thanks to folklorists like Wexford man Michael Fortune.

He made a special video on Folklore.ie to tell us all a few more unusual stories about St Patrick, including another curse for Mayo - and we thought the football one was bad enough!

Check it out at the top of this article.

Michael recently appeared on RTÉ's Home School Hub where he told everyone about his own work preserving the spoken heritage of Ireland.

Have a look at the video below to find out more.

Thanks so much to Michael for coming on Home School Hub and for sharing his St Patrick stories too.

It's always a great thing to speak to your older relatives (online or on the phone for now) and ask them about the history of where you live or do they know any old stories. Give it a go!
