Senator Eileen Flynn: A trailblazing Traveller woman

It's really important to remember to celebrate women all the time, and not just on International Women's Day.

That's why Home School Hub invited Senator Eileen Flynn to come in and tell us all about herself as a woman, a Traveller and a politician.

Watch the full interview above and make sure to really listen to what Eileen is saying. How important it is to realise that we are not all that different no matter where we grow up, what we look like or whatever other differences others might point to.

In June 2020 Eileen became Senator Eileen Flynn, and in doing so became the first Traveller to ever sit in the House of the Oireachtas. In her case it was the Seanad Éireann, where she helps to shape the laws of the land.

She tells us about Traveller culture and growing up on halting site in Ballyfermot and about her own family. Did you know that Travellers have their own language called 'Cant'?

Senator Eileen Flynn will continue to speak up in the Seanad for Travellers and whoever needs a voice.
