Today in our History class, we went to JAPAN.
Múinteoir Ray taught us today about the legend of Ninja Warriors.
When we think of Ninjas, we might be thinking of the Lego Ninjago movie, or maybe Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles. But today we traveled back in time, 800 hundred years ago, to Japan and to understand what it meant to be a Ninja Warrior. If you were a Ninja Warrior, you were also known as a Shinobi.
The main purpose was espionage, or spying. We often think Ninjas always wore black but they were often disguised as farmers or monks.
Ninjas worked for money and not honour! There is some also evidence of Samurai Warriors (like the one pictured below) actually hired Ninjas for jobs that they didn't want to do themselves! Ninjas also were not as respected as Samurai Warriors because they snuck around rather than face their enemy.
