In this visit to Dublin Zoo on Home School Hub, Kelly from the Discovery and Learning team is going to introduce us to a resident of the African Plains - the Oryx.

They live there with some of their more famous neighbours like the giraffes and zebras, but you might not know a lot about them. Have a look at the video above and Kelly will tell you LOADS about them!

Scimitar-horned oryx are classified as extinct in the wild by the IUCN Red List.

The scimitar-horned oryx was once widespread across northern Africa, but have gradually disappeared from the wild due to over-hunting, habitat loss and competition with domestic livestock.

The best known feature of the Scimitar-horned oryx is their horns that are shaped like a scimitar sword.

Can you name the famous features on the animals in the activity sheet? Download it below!
