Peter and the Wolf
Today, Múinteoir Cliona told us all about an amazing piece of music called Peter and the Wolf by the Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev.
We learned how the voice of each character is represented by a different instrument of the orchestra.
Let's refresh our memories - write the name of the correct instrument from Peter and the Wolf underneath its corresponding character.
The six instruments to choose from are: violin, horn, bassoon, oboe, clarinet and flute.
Download the activity sheet below and have a go!
Imagine you are a music composer
Choose a story you like and imagine that you have been asked to put it to music.
Pick an instrument for each character that you think represents them best!
- Try to pick a story with LOTS of characters - for instance, for Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, you would have: Charlie, his grandparents, Willy Wonka, the other four children at the factory and the Oompa Loompas!
- Think about each character's personality - are they kind or evil? Are they fun or boring? Are they energetic or lazy? What instrument would give the impression of these traits?
- Use the templates below to put together your musical plan. Draw pictures of both the character and the instrument, and explain why you chose a particular instrument for that character.
