The library is coming to you!

The doors may be shut for now but Irish libraries have lots of online resources on offer for families and individuals while everyone is asked to stay at home during the current restrictions.

There's loads of great online learning resources for children such as the Wildlife of Ireland Map.

This interactive map is a fun way to learn all about the birds, mammals and fish native to Ireland. It uses visual learning aids and illustrations to educate and aims to foster an interest in young people in local wildlife, conservation and positive engagement with nature.

Library members can browse from thousands of eBooks and audiobooks on the BorrowBox app and download items for free straight to their device. There are hundreds of children's and young adult books available too, from the latest novels to thought-provoking non-fiction.

For adults, we also offer an online newspaper service called PressReader, online classes on the Universal Class site, and language courses with the Transparent Language service. You can find out all about our online eLibrary services at www.librariesireland.ie/elibrary.

To access all these great services, all you have to do is join the library online at www.librariesireland.ie/join if you are not already a member!

They also operate the Ask About Ireland site. This is an initiative of public libraries together with local museums and archives in the digitisation and online publication of the original, the unusual and the unique material from their local studies' collections to create a national resource for culture and education - Ask About Ireland.

Your local library provides a wide range of resources and activities which strongly support primary schools in developing children’s literacy, numeracy, creativity and communication skills.

You can also find many online story-times and information on national reading campaigns such as Spring into Storytime and Summer Stars HERE.

Throughout 2020 and this year, local library services have been offering online experiences such as virtual storytimes, STEM workshops, online book clubs, author interviews and much more.

Follow your county or city library service on social media to find out what’s on offer!
