Before we go on, let's find out a bit more about our múinteoir...and hear what she has to say about warming up and how important it is to drink loads of water!

What is your favourite sport?
My fave sport is basketball but I love Gaelic football and volleyball too. I played basketball for Ireland and got a scholarship to play on college in the USA. To be honest I love just about every sport and I love watching it too.

It's not all just sports so how else can we stay active?
Dancing is the most fun way to exercise. I love making up my own dances and doing them to some upbeat music.

Yoga and Pilates are also great ways to exercise and stay healthy. You don't even realise it but just getting up and moving in anyway is so good for your mind and body.

How important is getting warmed up?
Warming up really helps us to send the message to our brain that it is time for exercise, that way the brain can send a message to the muscles to get in gear. Warm-ups prevent injury and can help you to preform better too.

What is hydration, and why is important?
Oooo don’t get me started on the importance of water. It’s the one thing our body can not survive with our. We tend not to drink near enough water so this is something I know everyone can improve on. Next time you are getting a drink skip the juice or cordial and drink a glass of water.

We should be getting at least five glasses a day. A good way to know if you are dehydrated is to look at your pee. I know it sounds silly but it really works. If your pee is dark in colour then you know your body needs more water.

How important is it to stay active?
We should be getting  60 minutes of activity every day! Now that does not have to be in row you can do ten mins of football snd then go for a walk or run later so you can split it up.

The most important thing is we don’t live a sedentary (sitting down) lifestyle where we just sit on the couch all day. Remember if you don’t use it you lose it so keep yourself as active as you can each day.
