TJ Reid is bringing back his super fun PE and hurling classes live on Facebook for free this and every Friday at noon to help keep all the boys and girls in Ireland moving.
It proved a big hit back in March 2020 with thousands taking part, and it went right up to the end of June, when the summer holidays officially started.
Just like the first lockdown last year, the Kilkenny legend will teach kids some of his hurling skills and how to keep fit, active and health with his pre-season training.
Equipment needed:
A hurl, sliotar/tennis ball and a football.
The classes will last around 45 minutes every Friday and TJ will warm up with everyone, before going into the class. He will also have prizes and birthday shout-outs too.
Log on here at noon every Friday
TJ says: "Every week you should try to get at least 90 minutes of outdoor exercise. If you break that down for 30 minutes any three days you can then that is a great way to stay healthy. You can do whatever you want, it can be hurling, soccer, just cycling around your house or going for a walk within the limits.
Of course, hurling is a big part of the classes and you can have lots of fun while learning the skills.
"You can do something like a roll lift and then jump up in the air after it. It gets the heart rate up and keeps you moving. There doesn't need to be a lot of fancy stuff to help you get better at hurling. All you really need is a hurl, a ball and a wall."
Here are some of TJ's top hurling tips:
- Just find something to hit the ball off and strike it as hard as you can off both sides.
- Then you can try to get catch it without it hitting the ground.
- For control hit it low into the ground and use the hurl to improve your first touch.
The most important message of all is to keep active and to have fun, no matter what sport or activity you enjoy.
