World Down Syndrome Day is 21 March every year.
World Down Syndrome Day is 21 March every year.

With thanks to Down Syndrome Ireland we have resources for Primary and Post-Primary schools ahead of World Down Syndrome Day on 21 March.

Every year we mark this global awareness day, which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012, and the goal is to help people understand and support those with Down syndrome better.

The date being the 21 March (21/03) was chosen to represent the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.

Lots of Socks

DSI is asking schools, communities and workplaces to host Lots of Socks parties wearing their most vibrant socks while raising awareness and vital funds for Down Syndrome Ireland.

By hosting parties, raising awareness and making donations, they will help DSI continue its vital work in supporting people with Down syndrome and their families.

Why Lots of Socks? As Down syndrome comes from an extra copy of a chromosome, which look like socks under a microscope, fun socks are a perfect way raise awareness. Participants are encouraged to wear their most colourful and mismatched socks, symbolising everyone's uniqueness.
