On this episode of This is Art Club! we look at the artistic principles of proportion and scale. From Dublin Port, to Lismore Castle and even a trip to the Zoo with artist Vivienne Roche, the show is full of inspiration.

And, as always we have a sneak peek. Our artist-in-residence Ross Carvill is creating on the double with the help of Alannah and Lara. They head down to Dublin Port to make a scaled down drawing of huge big ship, as well as making self-portraits on mirrors, with messed-up proportions.
Check out their mirror images in the video up top!

And there's more...
We travel to Lismore Castle in Co Waterford to meet a young group of artists who are experimenting with printmaking on a giant scale. Using natural elements and a giant roller they create a colourful artwork over 6ft in size.
One Irish artist who works on a truly large scale is Vivienne Roche RHA. This is Art Club! joins this world famous sculptor on a research trip to the elephant habitat at Dublin Zoo to observe the elephants bone structure and movements.
Back in studio, Shane and the gang get busy building an armature structure for Vivienne’s clay sculpture. We learn that an armature is a skeleton structure or framework used by artists to support a sculpture that cannot stand on its own. Shane’s carpentry skills are put to the test!
This is Art Club! Thursdays at 5.30pm on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player.
