Dublin Festival of History events for all the family!

The 12th Dublin Festival of History programme runs from 27, September until 13 October with more than 250 free events across the capital city.

There will be walks, talks, workshops and online gatherings for children of all ages.

Here are some events which we are sure younger history lovers will enjoy!

Alan Nolan loves a spooky story!

Children's History Book Club: Dickensian Dublin with Alan Nolan

Join author and illustrator Alan Nolan at a special meet up of the Children's History Book club at Richmond Barracks on 12 October, as he brings you on a trip around Dublin’s lost landmarks and creepiest crypts featured in his new historical book series!

Nicola Pierce

Step back in time with author Nicola Pierce on 9 October in the Lexicon Library and Cultural Centre, as she discusses her latest novel of historical fiction, 'In Between Worlds, the Journey of the Famine Girls’ – a book inspired by the brave orphaned Irish girls that left their overcrowded workhouses for a new life in Australia between 1848-1850.

Hidden Histories Hunt

Dublin’s Historian in Residence for Children, Dervilla Roche, will hold several events, including the Hidden Histories Hunt guided walk in Dublin City Centre on 5 October and an online ‘Big History Quiz’ on 6 October. The quiz will even include a special round where the participants can try their hand at being the quizmaster!

Holy Wells

Families can enjoy a workshop on the holy wells of North Dublin on 12 October, given by Dublin City Historian in Residence Katie Blackwood; tours of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral by Cathedral Schools Officer, Kryzel Bonifacio; and explore the collections of Dublin City Library and Archives, where afterwards they can create their own historical comic with illustrator Clare Foley on 12 October.
