World Down Syndrome Day took place on 21 March, and our friends at Down Syndrome Ireland shared some classroom resources for Primary and Post-Primary Schools to inform and educate.
The global theme this year is End the Stereotypes. It is an appeal for equal opportunities and esteem for people with Down syndrome throughout the world.
Check out the RTÉ News report with Sinéad and Eric up top where they answer some common questions on Down syndrome.
The resources below will allow teachers to start discussions and raise Down syndrome awareness.
For Primary Schools we have:
- World Down Syndrome Day 2024 guide
- Down Syndrome explained
- End the Stereotypes pack
- World Down Syndrome Day colouring sheets
For Post-Primary teachers we have:

Lots of Socks 2024
Lots of Socks is a colourful way to support people with Down syndrome on World Down Syndrome Day. The idea is that you wear your most colourful socks - even if they don't match! You can get family, friends or classmates involved, take a picture of you all wearing your colourful socks, and post it up with the hashtag #LotsOfSocks4DSI to support the campaign.
Parents and Teachers can host a coffee morning at home or in the workplace and invite family, friends or colleagues to join you, in their colourful socks, and make a donation in support of World Down Syndrome Day on Thursday, 21 March. Please share your photos across social media using #LotsOfSocks4DSI and let your feet do the talking!
Sign up your Lots of Socks event here!
And...keep an eye on RTÉjr and RTÉ Kids for some news about Dizzy Deliveries. We will have a very special World Down Syndrome Day treat for fans of the show...
