Heritage Week 2022 runs from 13-21 August and there are 1,600 events happening all over the country!

With so many things going on, we asked for some help from our friends at the Heritage Council and they are here with some suggestions. Here we go...
All About Hurling Tour for Kids
Croke Park Museum 18 August 10-11.30am
This National Heritage Week, the GAA Museum are offering visitors the chance to learn more about the sport of hurling and the Liam McCarthy Cup.
Where better to learn about the skills, heroes and uniqueness of hurling than at Croke Park – the home of Irish sport? Hurling dates back over 2000 years and in 2018, alongside camogie, it was added to the UNESCO list of protected cultural activities around the world.
Through a passionate guide, hear about the Irish mythological warrior and hurler, Cú Chulainn while learning the technique and skill required to play and strike the ball. This tour is for kids and includes a chance to walk pitchside at Croke Park and spend time in the GAA Museum where the original Liam McCarthy trophy is on display.
Hands on Hurling tours for Heritage Week are free of charge but must be booked online in advance. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Medieval Re-enactments at the Hall of the Red Earl
Galway City 15 & 20 August 11:30am to 4pm
Frozen in time, The Hall of the Red Earl stands as a tribute to and reminder of the medieval Galway of centuries gone by. Dating back to the 13th century, the archaeological ruins are linked to the founding of the city itself by the Anglo-Norman De Burgo clan.

Shape the Clay - Make Ceramic Bell Decorations with Emma King and Paul Griffin
Various days at The Hunt Museum in Limerick
Construct bells in air drying clay and decorate them, using coloured slip, with the medieval forms found in the Hunt Collection.
The workshop starts with a guided tour of the Hunt Museum's ceramic art exploring the variety of techniques used to make and decorate clay to learn about technological development and styles through time.
You will also see the four medieval Irish handbells on display in Lorcan Walshe’s - The Artefacts Project before making and decorating your own bell.
For Heritage Week there will be 2 workshops per day with 2 days aimed at children and 1 at adults. Each workshop has a maximum of 7 people.

The School of Irish Archaeology Coin Striking Workshop
Cork Public Museum 18 August 12pm to 4pm
Come along to the Cork Public Museum where children will get to see a Viking Coin Making Workshop where we will demonstrate how Ireland's first coin was minted while learning all about ancient trade and commerce in medieval Ireland.
The School of Irish Archaeology is proud to introduce their workshops and coin striking is designed around children from 5 to12 years of age. BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL!!
