On 25 February Libraries Ireland are asking everyone to take part in a national day of reading - Ireland Reads.
The simple idea is that we all commit to give as much time as we can to squeeze in a read. Hundreds of thousands of minutes have been clocked up by people who will pick up a paper, book or whatever and have a read.
Last year over 900,000 minutes were pledged and in 2022, with the libraries open to the public again, we have a bit to go, but we know we will smash that figure!
Join the campaign at www.irelandreads.ie where you can also see how much time has been pledged by the Irish public so far and sign up for reading reminders.
On the website there are more than 1,500 book recommendations from librarians all around the country for all interests and reading levels and ages. Why not get your whole school to sign up?!
On the website you enter your favourite type of book and how long you would like to read each day and the perfect book suggestion will be generated.
Library members can borrow from 12 million items completely free or use the library Borrowbox service online to choose from more than 40,000 eBooks and 30,000 eAudiobooks. Members can also get free access to online newspapers and magazines.
Ireland Reads is a public libraries initiative, in partnership with Healthy Ireland, publishers, booksellers, authors and others.
