The year 2022 is here, and there will be talk of resolutions and getting fit and moving. So, we asked Ireland's fastest woman, Phil Healy, what she thought of last year and her plans for the new one...
What was your highlight for 2021?
That is a tough one as 2021 has not been easy and I'm so grateful 2021 was such a great year on the track. Coming away with 4th place in a new PB (personal best) over 400m and a 4th place finish at the European indoor championships.
However, the Olympics games has to be the biggest highlight of the year. To become the first Irish woman to compete in three events and become an Olympic Games finalist with the mixed 4x400m relay was amazing.
Outside of myself, it was great to see so many great performances considering the struggles and uncertainty of 2021. It was unbelievable to see so many leading world class performances by Irish sports women.
What are you looking forward to in 2022?
Building on 2021, it’s a very busy year ahead with the World Indoor Championships, European and World outdoors. Fingers crossed that everything in the world will become a little more normal and we can return to spending time with others and traveling to different places.

Do you have any New Year's resolutions...
I’m never one for New Year's resolutions, but it always gets me thinking. I think it’s all about the small things, whether it’s drinking more water, eating some more fruit and vegetables, getting that extra bit of sleep at night or giving more time to yourself to relax... anything that will make you feel good.
Do top athletes have bad habits to get rid of??
Oh, I can assure you there is probably many bad habits that we all have. At the end of the day we are as normal as everyone else.
For me, it’s definitely spending too much time on my phone at times, or being the worst person to reply to peoples messages and emails on time!
