RTÉjr is up for awards at the IFTAs and Celtic Media Festival!

Wohoo! There's a great buzz in RTÉjr today as the news broke that RTÉjr Radio is up for Station of the Year at this year's Celtic Media Festival AND Günter Falls in Love is nominated for an IFTA in the Short Animation Category.

RTÉjr Radio Producer Nicky Coghlan said: "No-one could have predicted how turbulent 2019/20 was to be for RTÉjr Radio. However, we chose this turbulent time to try to evolve what Kid's Radio can and should be in Ireland. With more children at home there was greater demand for radio that met them where they were. And we delivered.

"Our DJs and shows offered consistency, reassurance and entertainment in equal measure. Recording remotely with our small team editing and compiling shows from home ensured that whilst we paddled away tirelessly, our young audience felt a sense of normality, or joined us in adapting to what had become normal. Irish kids need a platform and RTÉjr Radio has offered them just that."

Günter Falls in Love by Offaly-based company Cardel was made as part of the Shorts Yule Love series at Christmas and it's the gift that keeps on giving! Congratulations on their IFTA nomination!!

Günter, a pudgy pug, becomes besotted with an old hand-me-down family toy. The cuteness barometer broke when we viewed this one. It is directed by BAFTA-nominated Writer, Director and Animator Josephine Lohoar.

Well done to everyone involved and fingers, toes, everything crossed on 4 July!
