Learn how to think like an engineer

As part of STEPS Engineers Week, from 27 February to 5 March Microsoft DreamSpace are running events for Primary and Post Primary students. Registration details are more here!

Tuesday, 3 March - Primary Schools

Think Like an Engineer from 9.30am to 10.30am

This session is focusing on the theme of 'Sustainable Programming' and is for primary school pupils aged 9-12. To participate, pupils need access to join us live (via school or at home) but the tasks will be "unplugged" which means that to take part in the challenge activities, they won't need to use a computer, just a pen and paper.

Although there is no computer involved, they will be encouraged and challenged to computationally think whilst having lots of fun and learning new skills. With the unplugged activities focused on addressing sustainability, students will complete tasks that solve problems just like our

Code Like an Engineer from 11am to 12.30pm

This session is focused on theme of 'Sustainable Programming' and is for primary school pupils aged 9-12. To participate, pupils need access to join us live and will need to use their device to join the webpage www.makecode.microbit.org.

We will be then learning the basics of coding (an important skill for software engineers) and will challenge ourselves to program the micro:bit to help us solve some sustainability issues in the world. This session will be full of fun and engagement and will allow pupils the opportunity to think like a software engineer. No previous coding experience is necessary

Wednesday, March 4 - Secondary Schools

Think Like an Engineer 9am to 11.30am

Join the DreamSpace team to learn about the importance of engineering in Microsoft Ireland, hear from a Microsoft engineer and take on a design thinking "unplugged" challenge, teaching you to think like our Engineering team here at Microsoft.

Students just need access to join the link, via school or at home, and some writing materials due to the unplugged nature of the activity.

Code Like an Engineer 11am to 12.30pm

Join the DreamSpace team to learn about the importance of engineering in Microsoft Ireland, hear from a Microsoft engineer and take on a coding challenge, showcasing the key skills used by our software engineers every day.

No previous coding experience is necessary but students will need to be able to use a device connected to the internet to take part in the coding challenge.
