Every Night is a Late Late Show for Barn Owls

Even if it's just for the Toy Show, you probably have seen the famous Late Late Show owl named Gabriel.
Well he was in action recently as the crew were recording a new introduction to the show, and it didn't always go to plan.

Ryan Tubridy has revealed that Gabriel developed some notions during the filming of the montage sequence for the first episode of the new season last Friday night, and that the outtakes video is "one of the funniest things I've ever seen".

You can see new real opening at the top of the article where Gabriel flies around some famous places like Croke Park at night.

Gabriel the owl is a Barn Owl and they are a very rare sight, mostly because they are out hunting when we are all asleep!
Groups like BirdWatch Ireland are helping to protect and promote these amazing birds who are considered endangered.

They are rarely seen during the day, and are mainly active late at night. Most frequently they are seen flying across roads in car head-lights.
The birds appear a ghostly white, with no markings on the underwing. Long-eared owls have a dark comma mark. Given a close view, it shows a remarkably intricate patterning on the wings, back and head.

They fly in total silence but a loud shriek is most frequently heard when they do call, and this can sound a bit scary!

Barn Owls hunt small mammals and frogs. In Ireland, they are found to be very dependent on Greater White-tooted Shrew with other small mammals forming a much smaller percentage of prey caught.

They breed in ruined buildings, such as castles and to a lesser extent in outbuildings (barns/sheds). They will use special nest boxes and these are being encouraged on farms all over Ireland.
Their breeding success is heavily dependent on the availability of food to eat and what they can catch.

Barn Owls mostly stay around the areas they know, though young birds will wander in search of new territories. Most of the young birds will have left their nest by now, so they might be searching for their own place!
