All last week we looked at, and learned about the oceans, so now we are going to find out about one of the greatest events to take place on the high seas.
The Ocean Race is the new name for the Volvo Ocean Race, an extreme round-the-world sailing race that passes by the Irish coast every few years.
It is one the toughest challenges on earth and here we will learn more about the event and the work they are doing to raise awareness of the harm caused to the oceans by humans.
The sailing boats have sometimes stopped in Ireland during the Race and during every edition of the Race Irish sailors take part in the world's toughest team sports event that visits 6 continents and 10 countries.
Both the offshore sailing event organisers and the professional athletes who take part in the event care a lot about the ocean and ocean health. There are many ways that we all can help to keep the ocean healthy and ocean health.
The Ocean Race Learning programme has created some colourful booklets and worksheets to help you learn more about why the ocean is vital and what you can do to help the blue heart of our planet, which covers 71% of Earth’s surface.
