RUGBY

Fiona Coghlan is a former Irish Rugby Captain. She is here to inspire the next generation of players.

Grab the ball, try not to get caught by dodging players, a bit of a wrestle when you do get tackled, score tries and get mucky in the process. That's all part of the fun when playing rugby.

Rugby is very much a game for all, with everyone getting an opportunity to play. It is also one of the few games where every player is a defender, and every player gets to attack with the ball and try to score tries.

Another important factor in relation to rugby is the discipline children learn. From an early age, they see the respect that all players, young, old, amateur, professional, show towards the referee and lines-people. They come to realise that officials are an important part of the game and should be treated with respect, and that the captain of the team is the only person allowed to have conversations with the referee.
