3rd and 4th Class: Art

Make & Do: Delightful Decorations!

Here are some lovely decorations you can make, to decorate your home for a birthday, or even just to make the place look more fun for the people you live with!

BOBBLE

What you need:

  • Coloured wool
  • Cardboard (cereal box cardboard works well for this)
  • Marker / Pencil
  • Scissors

How to make:

Step 1: Draw two large circular discs on cardboard.  A glass works well as a template for the discs.

Step 2: Draw a smaller circle in the centre (use a coin if it's easier!).

Step 3: Cut a slit from the outer circle to the smaller one and cut out the smaller one too.

Step 4: Put both cardboard discs together then start wrapping your wool around them. The thicker you wrap you wool, the fluffier your bobble will be!

Step 5: Start cutting the wool, by pushing your scissors between the two discs. Yes it can be fiddly!  Make sure you have a good scissors, but be careful using it!

Step 6: Carefully wrap a long piece of wool between the two cardboard discs and around your bobble. Tie it as tightly as possible.

Step 7: Pull out your bobble, and you're done!

STREAMERS

What you need:

  • Glue
  • Colourful crepe paper

Step 1: Take two coloured strips of crepe paper and glue the ends of them together, at right angles to each other

Step 2: Fold one strip over the other and then the other over that one, and keep going until you have them completely folded together.

Step 3: Glue the ends together once you have folded them, and ta da!  Your very own swirly streamer!

Finger Puppet Fun

If you are having a party, why not create your own puppet show for guests? You can use something as simple as finger puppets.

Create your own story involving the finger puppets (or even write a script) and then ask people to be the 'actors' and put on a show for everyone!  Here are some puppets you can use, if you want, just cut them out and glue the bands to fit your fingers.  Have fun!

Whacky Wordsearch

See if you can find all the birthday words in the wordsearch. This is a zigzag word search, so words go left, right, up, down.  They don't go diagonally but they can bend at a right angle, like the example we’ve done for you.  Good luck!

[The solution is at the bottom of the sheet if you want to check it when you’re done.]
