Update: Asthma Society of Ireland competition dates have been extended until Monday 18th.
The Asthma Society of Ireland are joining up with RTÉ Home School Hub and want children of all ages to become involved with their asthma during Asthma Awareness Week 2020.
That is why they have developed a number of educational tools and competitions to share with us here at the Home School Hub to help you get creative, spread awareness, and win some prizes!
All of us are staying at home to stop the coronavirus spread. This can be a difficult time for some children and families. The Asthma Society of Ireland's #OwnOurAir and #AsthmaEducation Competitions are open to children of all ages. From toddlers to secondary school students, this is the perfect time to learn something new and get involved with Asthma Awareness Week 2020!

From RTÉ News, Asthma Society of Ireland records big increase in calls to its helpline.
There are three ways you can enter our #AsthmaEducation competition with the help of a grown up:
1. Complete our asthma colouring sheet (download and draw here)
2. Create an 'Asthma Mascot’
3. Create a ‘Corona-Pirate’
To enter our #OwnOurAir competition:
1. Download the Asthma Society’s resources to learn more on air pollution and its potential effect on health with reference to asthma.
2. Pupils take an action against air pollution in a bid to protect their own health, their families, and the air quality in their communities.
3. Students make a creative and engaging social media post detailing how they tackled air pollution/promoted clean air from their home, using the #OwnOurAir hashtag.
Simply post a photo of your artistic creation on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using either the #AsthmaEducation or #OwnOurAir hashtags (as relevant) and tag the Asthma Society of Ireland.
Pat Naughton, Executive Director, People & Organisation Development at ESB, said: "ESB wishes to empower young people to reach their full potential through programmes that engage their scientific literacy and critical thinking skills. So we are proud to partner with the Asthma Society of Ireland in developing this initiative. The #OwnOurAir campaign is a fantastic way of engaging our younger generation in tackling today’s problems through creative and innovative thinking. It is based on engaging skills in Science Technology Engineering Arts and Maths (STEAM) and using their learnings to help their fellow pupils and citizens who have asthma in a very practical way."
Let your imagination go wild and use whatever materials you have handy in your home to bring your creations to life!
There are six €50 One4All vouchers to be won! All competitions are running from Wednesday the 6th of May and closing Monday 18th. Visit www.asthma.ie for more details.
Please note this competition is run solely by Asthma Society of Ireland and not by RTÉ Home School Hub.
