Silly Syllables
For a bit of fun, why not try saying "Silly Syllables" quickly 5 times in a row. It's difficult isn’t it? Now that your mouth is warmed up, let’s give some syllables a go!
A syllable is a single, unbroken sound of a spoken (or written) word. It is a vowel sound with or without surrounding consonants. For example:
Cat has one syllable -> Cat
Water has two syllables -> Wa / ter
See if you can work out how many syllables are in the below words. Answers are at the bottom of the sheet.
Tip: It helps to stand in front of a mirror and watch how your mouth moves when you say each one.

Dance: Haiku Hip Hop
Haikus are Japanese poems. A haiku has three lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second has 7 syllables and the third and last line has 5! Create your own Haiku then perform a different dance move to each syllable. It can be any combination of moves you like! We call it – Haiku Hip Hop! Here's an example:
Dancing is great fun
Moving as much as you can
Then you take a break.
Here’s an example of what the first line might be like with dance moves:
DANC- -ING IS
GREAT FUN
