Recap

Recycling turns our rubbish into new useful products. This saves energy and reduces pollution. It only takes a few minutes to rinse out plastic, glass and tin containers and sort out cardboard, so don't forget to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Activity Art: CD Fish

CD and DVD's cannot be recycled.  So instead of binning them, how about making some art?

What you will need:

  • 2 unwanted CDs / DVDs
  • Card
  • A permanent marker & coloured markers / pencils
  • Scissors
  • Pva glue
  • Sticky tape
  • String / ribbon
  • 2 googly eyes (not essential)
  • Anything else you want to decorate you fish with e.g sequins, glitter, stickers.

1) With the permanent marker, draw scales on the shiny side of the two CDs

2) Draw shapes, like the ones in the picture, for 2 fins, a tail and lips.  Colour them in on both sides and cut them out.

3) Depending how far down you want your fish to hang, cut up your string to the length you want; loop it and tape it down to the non-shiny side of the CD. Glue the fins, tail and lips on.

Cover the non-shiny side in glue and stick on the other CD.  Let it dry. Stick a googly eye (or cut out paper eye) to each side of the fish just above the lips.

4) Use half an A4 sheet of card for the fan-like fins that go through the centre of the CD. Colour in on both sides and then fold up like a fan. Squeeze it through the centre of the CD until the fins are even.  Fan out the card to make the fins bigger.

5) Hang your fish in a widow, or somewhere it will catch the light and shine rainbows around your room.
