5th and 6th class: History - World War I

WORLD WAR I (1914-1918)

In summer 1914 a war broke out in Europe that would change the world forever. In Ireland, some people supported the cause and joined up or travelled to serve in the nurse and auxiliary services.

Others objected to the war on moral, social or political grounds. By the time the conflict ended in 1918, its impact was felt by everyone throughout the length and breadth of the country.

The National Library of Ireland has an online exhibition about the Irish experience of the first World War which you can browse through here.
