Activity

Use a marker, pencils, lollipop sticks, your hand, foot, or anything, as a unit of measurement to measure the height of your family members, rooms in your house, or whatever you fancy measuring. Who is the tallest person? Which is the widest room? Etc.

You could write down your measurements like this:

Measured

Length in Pencils

Eg: Sister                         7
Me ?
Mam ?
Dad ?

Let us know what or who you measured, what you used to measure them with and what your findings were. Happy measuring!

Fun Facts about Giraffes

Did you know the giraffe is the tallest animal in the world?

Giraffes can be up to 6 metres in height. That's about 32 pencils high! Taller than a double decker bus.

Despite their huge height Giraffes are actually very fast at running. They can get up to speeds of 56km per hour.

Giraffes have very long blue tongues. Their tongues can be up to 50cm long. Giraffes are from very hot African countries, so having the blue tongue stops them getting sunburnt when they stick it out to eat.

They sleep standing up and only for short amounts of time.

Giraffes can live for about 25 years in the wild.

Their diet mainly consists of leaves from the tall thorny Acacia tree.

Male Giraffes use their heads and necks to fight. They swing their neck really fast, and their head delivers huge blows to the opponent.
