news2day Explainer: Australia bans social media for kids under 16

RTÉ's Technology Correspondent Brian O'Donovan was with Cathal in studio today to explain more about Australia's social media ban for children under 16 years old.

According to Reuters, the country became the first in the world to implement a minimum age for social media use, with platforms like Instagram, TikTok and YouTube forced to block more than a million accounts, marking the beginning of an expected global wave of regulation.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said the country is "taking back control" from powerful tech giants with landmark laws banning kids using and setting up accounts on all platforms.

Press play up top as Brian tells Cathal what it all means.
