Updated news2day: Donald Trump's tariffs explained

Trump's Tariffs have barely been out of the news in 2025. It might seem a little complicated, so news2day are here to help everyone understand what is going.

Here, we have three explainer videos looking at everything that's happened so far. Start at the top and scroll down for the full story. Back in February, Molly sat down with David Murphy in studio to explain what they are and what was happening.

David is RTÉ's Economics and Public Affairs Correspondent. He tells us that tariffs are taxes imposed on goods imported from abroad. They are still getting headlines as Donald Trump looks to use them with trade partners all over the world. First he aimed at countries like Canada, Mexico and China - and he promised more to come...

He kept that promise! Since then the USA have looked across the Atlantic to Europe.

In the video above, Barry has a run-down on what could happen as Mr Trump announces new tariffs on EU goods. It will have an impact on Ireland and there is some concern over things like pharmaceutical exports.

And, finally on April 3rd, we all found out exactly what was going on as Donald Trump announced his tariffs for trading partners around the world.

Barry has the latest, but we will all have to wait and see what the impact is as Ireland and the EU were hit with a tariff of 39%.
