Let's look back on the events of the past 12 months with the news2day Review of the Year 2025!

As always, the news2day team were there to bring you all the big headlines, helping everyone to understand the story behind the stories.

Florence and Cathal hit the road on countless school visits, meeting talented young people, reporting on great projects and work in the community too.

Plus, there were lots of great guests in studio to mark big days like World Down Syndrome Day and discuss big issues like homelessness. We were so lucky to meet so many amazing young people.

Among the top stories, Catherine Connolly became Ireland's 10th president following an election in October. She replaced Michael D Higgins, whose term came to an end.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made an official visit to Ireland in early December, where he addressed TDs and Senators in Dáil Éireann.

In international news Donald Trump was inaugurated as President of the United States of America. This meant that tariffs were a big story too - check out the explainer video here!

Pope Francis died in April. At the beginning of May, a new Pope, Leo, was chosen. Ailbhe Conneely reported from Rome and explained how the Pope was chosen.

In October, a ceasefire was announced in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas, two years after the conflict began. We had some explainer videos and special reports from the region from RTÉ's Deputy Foreign Editor Edmund Heaphy.

With thanks to the RTÉ newsroom there were more special reports from COP30 in Brazil, Nigeria and Bangladesh.

Ireland loves a good sports story, and one man has us dreaming of a place at the FIFA World Cup! In an amazing week, Troy Parrott scored 5 goals in 2 games to get the boys in green into the World Cup Play-Off in March.

We also look back on a sporting year where Irish stars took on the world and won! There was everything from Ryder Cup drama to Athletics and lots more. Plus, we see how the cups were won in soccer and Gaelic Games.
