Television: Travel around the world with JourneyCam International

With 2026 just around the corner, lots of people are dreaming of amazing trips abroad. If you are looking for some inspiration, then you need to check out the new season of JourneyCam International.

It's the show from RTÉ KIDS where we follow Irish children, equipped with their own JourneyCam, on their unique journeys as they explore their heritage and discover cultural and family connections in faraway lands.

Join the adventure as we head to Turkey, South Africa and Spain. From 26 to 29 December, tune in to RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player at 12.35pm each day. Press play to watch the trailer up top and read on to find out more about our travel vloggers and their destinations.

Turkey

Twelve-year-old Ilayda from County Carlow, proud of her Irish/ Turkish roots, travels with her family to Nazilli, Western Turkey, to visit her grandmother.

She discovers the local love for tea, explores the ancient ruins of Hierapolis, dips into the mineral-rich pools of Pamukkale, tries some sweet sticky baklava and takes a traditional Zeybek dance lesson with local school children. But the heart of her journey is learning Turkish lacemaking from her grandmother, uncovering the love and heritage woven into every thread.

South Africa

In this two-part special, Roland (12) from Co Wexford returns to his South African roots, reuniting with family and his best friend Boka in Johannesburg. He explores village life, helps prepare a campfire dinner, visits Soweto to learn more about the history of apartheid struggles, goes on a thrilling safari drive in search of the Big Five, joins the Pedi Tribe for a traditional dance lesson, and takes a breathtaking light aircraft flight with his grandfather.

In Part 2 of the South African adventure Roland is off to Cape Town. He visits a vibrant Ndebele village to try beadwork, then travelling with his family to Cape Town. He hikes in search of ancient San rock art, meets waddling 'jackass' penguins at Boulders Beach, and takes in spectacular views from Table Mountain. Along the way, Roland learns about South Africa's heritage, wildlife, and natural wonders, blending history, culture, and unforgettable experiences.

Spain

Eleven-year-old Arianna from Kildare travels with her family to Cartagena, her dad’s hometown in southern Spain. She explores the city’s winding streets and ancient Roman Theatre, samples sweet churros, and visits a bustling fish market with her grandmother.

Arianna discovers the rhythm of Spanish life, tries flamenco dancing for the first time, and experiences the vibrant Cante de las Minas Flamenco Festival. Back at home with her grandparents, she helps cook a 'Paella Sunday' feast - a celebration of food, family, and tradition.
