TV: Jason Byrne gifts us his Twelve Storybuds of Christmas

What do British composer Frederic Austin, actor Frank Kelly and comedian Jason Byrne all have in common? As of today, all three have created iconic versions of the Twelve Days Of Christmas.

You can unwrap The Twelve Storybuds of Christmas with Jason Byrne each festive morning on RTÉ2 - and you can stream the shows now on RTÉ Player!

First scribbled down in 1705, the timeless classic carol has been mangled, jingled and joyfully reimagined for over 300 years, and now it's Storybuds’ turn. There's a dozen tales of gifting gone wrong.

Over twelve jolly-holly episodes, Jason tells the story of the Crackers. We meet Larry the librarian and Betty the birdwatcher who decide to fake an illness so they can avoid the big family Christmas celebrations in favour of ‘having a quiet one’.

But when twelve unusual gifts begin to show up on their doorstep each day, you can be sure that Larry and Betty’s Christmas is going to be anything but quiet.

Jason Byrne has new Christmas Storybuds!

Day 1 sees a monkey arriving - his enclosure is getting a makeover. And that's the first of many gifts gone wrong from a family who live for the festive season - well most of them at least...

So settle down, pull up your own yellow armchair, squeeze into your Christmas onesie, and brace yourself for twelve episodes of full-throttle festive mayhem. Because Christmas without Storybud, well that’s just Thursday in a novelty jumper.

The Storybud box set is streaming here now on RTÉ Player - from celebrity stories, to Halloween and Christmas!

And, seeing as it's Christmas, we have a little treat from RTÉ KIDS YouTube Channel - press play up top to watch the first two shows.
